Abseiling Down St. Wulram's Church. Grantham
Three brave souls diced with death to raise charity money for The Fabric of St. Wulfram’s Church, The Army Benevolent Fund and Help for Heroes. John Cussell was the first to abseil down followed by Pam and Irvin Metcalf later in the day. Lots of anticipation as you were kitted up with the safety harness and helmets. (Felt a bit like being back in nappies. Probably useful for later on!). Then the hard climb up the 208 steps inside one of the great piers of the church front and out onto the narrow pathway at the base of the spire. Stunning views of all around Grantham on a perfect sunny day and a breath taking 240 foot view, to the ground! After a bit of a wait up there we were give instruction by two very professional Army instructors (Para Troop Regiment) who were not taking ‘No’ for an answer. “The only way down is on this rope!” Well two actually. One which you have control of the decent and a second, which thankfully, t hey have control of. The hardest (scary) bit was getting over the parapet and the first tentative goes at abseiling. After that it was plain abseiling and absolute relief of returning to terra-firma, albeit with shaking knees. If you think we did a good job for charity then please help us to raise a bit of money for these worthwhile causes http://www.justgiving.com/IrvinandPam-Abseiling
